A home listing that is in Contingent status indicates that an offer has been accepted, but that offer is contingent on certain conditions being met prior to closing.

A home purchase may be contingent on the results of a home inspection or on the sale of another property. Depending on the contingency, a second buyer may be able to bump the first buyer by offering without such a contingency. A contingent status also may indicate that the property has a chance of coming back on the market if the contingency fails.
