When Do I Get the Keys to My New House?

When do I get the keys to my new house? findwell agent Matt Martel answers in this installment of Ask an Agent.

Q: When do I get the keys to my new house?

You get the keys to your new house when the deed is recorded at the county recorders office. That usually happens about four-o’clock, five-o’clock in the afternoon on the day of closing. And the day of closing is usually about one or two days after you’ve signed all of your loan documents at the escrow office.

Q: Can I start moving my stuff in after I transferred my money to escrow?

You cannot start moving your stuff in to your new home until the deed is recorded, even if you have paid your money at escrow signed all loan documents until it is recorded, which may be a day or two after that happens, you cannot move in.
