How can I find a good mortgage lender?

How can I find a good mortgage lender? findwell agent, Lauren GeRoy, answers in this installment of Ask an Agent.

Q: How can I find a good mortgage lender?

The best place to look for a lender is to start looking locally. Local lenders will know the market that you’re looking in, they’re in the same time zone as you, and they probably have a good relationship with local brokers in the area. findwell has a great list of lenders on our website under our home resources tab that we’ve had great success with in the past and our clients have been very happy with.

Q: I found a really cheap lender online. Should I just go with them?

The cheapest lender is not always the best option for a lot of different reasons. If they’re an out of state lender they may not know the closing practices here. We’ve had some difficulties with out of state lenders being in different time zones, not knowing when closing documents need to be at escrow and it can actually delay the process. The cheapest lender is not always the best option.
