Q:Should I be worried that a home may have lead paint?

If you think your home has lead paint in it, which is any home built prior to 1978, and you should probably just assume that there is some lead paint in there. The thing you need to be concerned about is peeling and flaking paint. It may have been painted several times since then at which point you don’t need to worry about it. What you really need to look out for is peeling, flaking, and layers of old paint.

Q: Is there a way to test for lead paint in the house?

There are a couple of ways to determine if your home has lead based paint. One way is to take a few samples and bring them to a lab and have them tested. The other way is to have a professional come to your home and he or she will scan all areas of the home and do a full lead paint analysis and tell you if you have lead paint in the home.
