Learn about developments in your neighborhood with Seattle DPD’s new interactive map application

Have you ever driven down the street in your neighborhood, see construction going on, and wanted to learn more about it? The Seattle Department of Planning and Development (DPD) just made it really easy to access this type of information with their new online map application, “Shaping Seattle: Buildings.

Screen Shot 2015-07-25 at 10.45.22 AM copyThis new mobile-friendly map was designed with the intent of keeping communities and residents more informed about the building and growth of our city. As you can see from the map above, there is a large number of new buildings underway in Seattle. Currently, the map includes projects that require Design Review. Users are able to view/download information regarding each project. Each project includes drawings and a detailed description about the proposed project. You can also see where the project falls on the project timeline (from early design guidance, to permits issued, to completed construction).

Users can easily access all project documents – making a very transparent view of the process. Users are encouraged to provide feedback regarding the projects via their comment section as well. The City of Seattle is also urging users to provide feedback on the site as a whole. Offer suggestions on what other features you’d like to see as well as advice on ways to improve the current map.
