Are you relocating to the Seattle area and thinking of buying a home? Or perhaps you already live here and are a first-time home buyer? Either way, you are going to want to know which real estate websites to use when you search for your new home.
The Seattle area and most of Western Washington State are covered by the Northwest Multiple Listing Service (NWMLS) database. Local real estate agents list properties for sale in the NWMLS database, and those listings are then made available on the websites of any broker who is a member of the NWMLS. When searching for a home, it is important that you utilize sites that are displaying data from the NWMLS. This will ensure that you are seeing listings from all of the local real estate brokers.
In some areas of the country, Realtor.com is a popular site to search for homes. In 2007, the NWMLS discontinued their practice of sending listings to Realtor.com. This leaves it up to each individual brokerage in our area to submit listings on their own. Because of this, Seattle-area listings on Realtor.com are totally incomplete. If you are searching for homes in the Seattle we do NOT recommend using Realtor.com since you will be missing out on many of the homes for sale. Move.com is powered by the same database, and we make the same recommendation against using it.
There are a many local sites showing all of the NWMLS listings. I have a few favorites, but there are likely more I haven’t tried.
Send us your favorite NWMLS site and we’ll add it to the list!
