The Case-Schiller Index is a widely-used index that monitors how home values are changing in various cities around the US.
Case-Schiller tracks homes in 20 major metropolitan areas on a monthly basis. Changes in home values are calculated by looking at resale history of single-family homes to determine what people are willing to pay for the same home over time. Case-Schiller excludes new construction, condos and homes that have been extensively remodeled from its calculations.
